Il Memorial Alessio Giovannini nasce nel 2021 per volontà di Francesco Giovannini, nipote del giornalista marchigiano Alessio Giovannini scomparso prematuramente nel 2019. Ad affiancarlo la famiglia e gli amici di Alessio, tra cui Chiara Montesano e Marcello Magnani.

Alessio ha sempre amato l’atletica e con essa Ancona che lo ha visto nascere come giornalista sportivo e lo ha trascinato, fortunatamente diciamo noi, nel mondo dell’atletica. Ad Ancona è cresciuto e ad Ancona abbiamo voluto istituire un Memorial a suo nome che ha l’ambizione di diventare il Meeting Internazionale Indoor più importante d’Italia. 

La III edizione ha visto siglate due Migliori Prestazioni Italiane Indoor e si è classificato all’88° posto nella classifica dei Meeting Indoor che viene stilata ogni anno da World Athletics. Dal 2025 il Meeting è entrato nel World Indoor Tour Challenger, e proprio nell’edizione 2025 si segnala il record europeo U18 di Kelly Doulla in 7.23 nei 60m. Anche nel 2026 l’evento sarà nel World Indoor Tour.

The Alessio Giovannini Memorial was created in 2021 at the initiative of Francesco Giovannini, nephew of the Marche journalist Alessio Giovannini, who passed away prematurely in 2019. He is supported by Alessio’s family and friends, including Chiara Montesano and Marcello Magnani.
Alessio always loved athletics, and with it the city of Ancona, where he grew as a sports journalist and where—luckily for all of us—he was drawn into the world of track and field. He developed his career in Ancona, and it is in Ancona that we wished to establish a Memorial in his name, with the ambition of becoming the most important indoor international meeting in Italy.
The third edition produced two Italian Indoor Best Performances and ranked 88th in the annual list of Indoor Meetings compiled by World Athletics.
Since 2025, the Meeting has entered the World Indoor Tour Challenger, and in the 2025 edition it featured the European U18 record by Kelly Doulla, who clocked 7.23 in the 60m. The event will also be part of the World Indoor Tour in 2026.
